i have never understood how adults that have had a life in the normal world could be brainwashed into this cult?
ok i know it dosn't happen very often, about 1 in every 10 years in my experiance.
but it dos happen all the same?.
"I think some are attracted to the religion because it's the only place a normal ordinary person could become someone who is praised by others because of things they can control... their speaking ability, hour spent out on service, reaching out, pioneering ect..ect."
truthseeker - I totally agree on this. I have a friend who says all the time "where else would these men get 150 people to sit and regularly listen to their dumb a$$e$?"..... nowhere.

Brainwashed - if u were born in you should know this by heart...................God's spirit bears witness with their spirit and they just know.
that's the best answer I ever got on the subject anyway.

ok another poster just went to the two day assembly and i just went to the one day special assembly day sunday.
at both of them it seems there was strong words against getting married.
they had on the stage a group of young men about three of them an older sister who is not that attractive but she is really nice, of course not brother would give her the time of day, and this older brother who is in his 60's and nice but very strange.. they all went on and on and on about not getting married.
my great-grand and grand mothers always talked about how they told them not to marry and have kids........
"It amounts to cruel and unusual punishment to raise children in this cancer of a religion. A whole generation of youth on antidepressants and bipolar from this nonsense"
That's hilarious Misery................and some of my jw family is working on raising up the 5th gen in this garbage. I wish they would drop it like a bad habit.
when i was in school, acquiring a good, all-around education was stressed constantly.. math, english, science, history, civics, even the bible were taught by competent instructors.. i worked hard, made good grades, and scored well on the act.. then, the jw's came a-callin' and i took after them like a duck after a june bug!.
soon, i noticed with misgivings, that many in the congregation discounted education - some of the speakers' grammar was atrocious!.
if i expressed dismay at this, i was given disapproving looks and counseled on the importance of not being puffed up with pride.. of course, i had nothing of which to be proud, having come recently from the cotton fields, but no one took notice of that.
There was a sister in my congregation who held an administrative position in one of the big hospitals here. After her baptism, she started taking the truth more seriously, eventually gave up her high paying job to pioneer. It wasn't long before she started to complaining about the territory, the flow of holy spirit in the congregation and how no one invited her and her family to gatherings. I would often think "This is what the organization reduces you to........"

leon weaver gave a talk here in england recently at the east pennines assembly hall.
he mentioned the 15 july 2010 wt but did not expand on it.
i had never heard of him but found a photo of him in 2003 yearbook and also noted he was mentioned in coc.
He's an older prominent black brother who works in the service dept (last I heard). Used to be CO years ago. He's tight with JR Brown and some other "heavies" at Bethel. He usually has a smile and is a decent speaker. He's married.

Snowbird, When I was a junior in high school a counselor sat with me and my mom and talked about my bright future. I was due to graduate a year early due to good grades and testing out of some classes. My mom sat there all proud and said " Oh no there will be no college for her. We're Jehovah's Witnesses and she will be entering the ministry work full time." The counselor just put my folder away and that was the end of the meeting. It is sooooo beyond ridiculous. I wish that those in education were trained how to recognize and treat cult members. But b/c witnesses attend regular school and appear to be normal, no one recognizes that help is needed.

My husband always says the WTS' stand on education alone should make all "minorities" run for their lives.
The irony of this position really smacks you in the face at Bethel. Those who are favored for promotions and cushy jobs are the educated white brothers. The Bethel office is lilly white with a few sprinkles of color thrown in here and there. More often than not the educated black/hispanic witnesses are pushed aside in favor of training the white brothers. During the bethel layoffs most of those brothers were black......it was a running joke for a minute.
And let's not even start on the subjugation of the women in the org. The bethel wives had so many psychosomatic problems from submitting to theocratic order it isn't even funny. Of course all of this is just mirrored back in the local congregations as well.
And the whole "wait on Jehovah" when you notice something not quite right..........jeez louise
It is indeed a very racist and sexist group and the lack of educated members ensures that it will stay that way. I would think that Jesus would have noticed the bigotry among these men before he anointed them over all of his possessions.

did you intend to leave your estate to the wts when you died?.
in several threads ive read, ppl make comments to the effect that theres no point leaving money to jws, because they would just leave the money to the wts anyway.. .
this is an assumption that i believe is a generalisation.. .
One of my relatives made a comeback about 10 years ago and became an elder. He died recently and left more money to the congregations he'd attended during his life than he did to his children...........he also has family members who have dedicated their life in fulltime service to the borg but left none to them................

i look back now and think what the hell was wrong with me?
it's just so crazy to be so blind.
everytime, i'd think that this or that wasn't quite right, i'd think i was committing blasphemy.. it's sad to know that's why many people are still stuck in that religion..
I was indoctrinated from birth to suppress any tendency to question and doubt all witness authority figures.........God, the organization, my parents, the elders........etc etc. As I started to grow up and question/express doubts, I was chastised verbally and emotionally until I fell in line........... I wish I had just bit the bullet and followed my heart. I would have managed somehow..............
